Welcome to Purple Chocolat Home where
today we had fun with the ladies from
The Traveling Totes as we did a swap with
one of the ladies in the group showcasing some of the
things of our hometown or state.
I was partnered with Ricki Jill
at The Sketchy Reader, and she hails from
Birmingham, Alabama. Birmingham was
founded in 1871 during the post Civil War
reconstruction era. Most of its settlers were
English. Today it has over one million in
population and is about one-fourth of
Alabama's population. I have never been
to Alabama, but now it is on my bucket list!
What a fun package Ricki Jill sent me filled
with flavors of the south.
I was so excited, I started opening things up
and taste testing right away, and then I remembered -
I am supposed to take photos, and there might
not be anything left!!
Yum! Peggy's Pecan Brittle was the first
to disappear. It was so buttery and delicious.
And extra wicked and delicious
Wickles Pickles nearly disappeared before
I snagged some photos. I will have to find a
way to get more of these. I couldn't stop
eating them.
These are sweet
and spicy and absolutely addicting.
Blue grits will be cooked up with one
of hubby's favorites - Shrimp and Grits, and
you can see we already have enjoyed some of
the B-B-Q Cheese Biscuit Mix.
We have yet to try out the Whistle Stop
Caboose Cobbler Mix. I think I want
to make this with peaches.
Aren't the names just half of the fun?
Of course my little MacKenzie-Childs bunny wanted
in on the photos.
I had so much fun taste testing all of these goodies
from Alabama.
Little did Ricki Jill know that Biscuits and Gravy
are one of our favorites. We started years and
years ago serving them for Christmas Breakfast.
The weather turned from beautiful and sunny
to overcast and cold and rainy and both
hubby and I sat down for Biscuits and Gravy
for dinner and mentioned how it was a
perfect meal for a cold a gloomy day!
Thanks Patti at Pandora's Box
for putting this A Taste of _____
swap together. And thank you Ricki Jill for
all of your fun southern treats.

Wow - fabulous tastes from Alabama!! My gifts also came from Alabama - they certainly eat well down there!!! The photo of Wickles made my mouth water - I think I need to find a jar of those! Happy you enjoyed the swap!
ReplyDeleteYes, this was a blast! I loved shopping for it, and I loved receiving and tasting it too! Alabama is great!
DeleteWhat a lovely gift Ricki sent from Alabama. I can see why you gobbled down some of those goodies. I received the very same cheese biscuit mix. Wickles sounds great, such a cute name. Love this idea.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqueline, Ricki Jill certainly has a lots of my favorites in your box. Wickle Pickles are hard to stop eating and so is the peanut brittle. Those cheese biscuits are so good piping hot out of the oven. We sure would love to see you come to our happy state! Yes, this was a lot of fun seeing what everyone included in their gift swap boxes. Hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend sweet friend.........
ReplyDeleteJackie, I'm craving some peanut brittle! I could eat the entire bag! Wickles Pickle Relish is a staple in our refrigerator. I didn't realize it was from AL. We love biscuits and gravy here as well, and my guy loves grits. Ricky Jill sent a wonderful package of treats. I have to agree. This swap was great fun!
ReplyDeleteYou girls are making me hungry! My office mate makes us peanut brittle every Christmas! This swap was a blast! One of these days, I am going to visit Alabama. Great job Ricki Jill!
ReplyDeleteGreat box of goodies, Jackie! Little did I know Wickles hail from AL...we can get those at our local Boar's Head Deli and yes, they are wickedly good and addictive. All of those things look yummy. I think biscuits and gravy must be universal....but I did find there's a regional line somewhere in PA that I couldn't get them when we were traveling north. When I asked for it, the lady looked at me like I had three heads, lol.
ReplyDeleteIt's unanimous....the swap was a blast!
They are made in Dadeville, Alabama, close to our lake cabin. Dadeville is a tiny little town!
DeleteRicki Jill sent you some great stuff! I sent Linda the Jim & Nick's biscuit mix too, it's one of my favorites! And good ole Wickles! Alabama is such a beautiful place to live and Southerners know how to feed you!! This swap was incredible fun! I can't wait to see what you sent my neighbor Ricki Jill!
ReplyDeleteJenna
Looks like a great box of goodies from Alabama ,which is also my home state. You illustrated them well in photos.
ReplyDeleteAw, Jackie, I'm so glad you're enjoying your goodies! The Wickles are truly the best. And I did get to the bottom of the Mystery of the Pickle Fork. Stay tuned! ;P
ReplyDeleteMy post will be live at 4:00 AM PDT tomorrow.
What fabulous gifts you received from Ricki Jill!! You were certainly spoiled with all those goodies, Jacqueline.
ReplyDeleteRicki sent some great gifts from my home state. McEwen grits are a staple at our house and we love the mix from Jim ‘N Nicks! I have enjoyed reading what you ladies sent each other.
ReplyDeleteJackie, I think those girls in Alabama have the most interesting foods with such clever names, which I agree make them even more enticing! Your photo of that Wickles pickle made me drool. I love pickles! And your biscuits and gravy would be perfect for a snowy Christmas morning or a cold evening by the fire. This was indeed fun and I am going over to see the goodies you sent to RJ!
