I am not ready for Christmas and lights and magic
to end and be over and put away!
I love that places keep the magic going until
into January. My birthday is two weeks after
Christmas and for the last 20 years we have
escaped the dreary weather of January here
in Utah at least for a week so that I can grow
older in sunshine. Let me tell you it helps!
We decided to have an early birthday dinner
to celebrate with the kids and their spouses,
and we headed up to La Caille at Quail Run -
the fanciest restaurant we have in Utah to bask
in their Christmas glow and celebrate my birthday.
I have tried to teach my children that you should
dress up for a nice restaurant, and they did a
great job. They had fun doing it too.
This one came straight from work so he
felt underdressed and didn't want to take
his coat off and she is 7 months pregnant
and didn't want to take her coat off either.
Everyone but one couple were able to make it.
Half of them had never been to La Caille before,
and we wanted them to experience it in it's
Christmas splendor.
It's what my dream chateau would look like,
inside and out.
And the food was marvelous too.
This was a Burrata cheese appetizer served
in a slice of squash.
An exquisite filet with a sauce that was a blend
of Bearnaise sauce and a Red Wine Sauce with
incredible Au Gratin Potatoes,
And a monstrous chocolate cake! We had to laugh at the
tiny ice cream scoops! We were too full and brought most
of the cake home.
Next we are off to our cabin at Sundance for
skiing through New Year's Day and then
hubby is whisking me off first to Disneyland
to soak up the last of their Christmas magic
before it disappears until next year and then
on to Hawaii to soak up some sun while I age!
Mid January we can get back to real life, but until
then we are enjoying the season until it is all gone!
Well, nothing like celebrating in grand style!!! That is awesome! Enjoy and we'll look forward to hearing about all the fun and celebration upon your return.
ReplyDeleteI have found it helps with the aging process - haha!
DeleteWhat a beautiful way to celebrate your birthday. I'm a January birthday too, and have to agree about the chill that comes with it. We of course don't live in cold country, but January in TX has its share of frigid weather. This week will be in the 20s, and that's cold for us! Enjoy your month of celebratory trips. I know you will have a fantastic time! Happy New Year, and Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think I would rather grow older in Texas than Utah, although we have had no snow and weather in the 40's and even up to 50 so far this winter.
DeleteWhat a tradition in how you celebrate life and living! Enjoy it to the max!
ReplyDeleteThe only way to spend dreary January. Maybe in a few years I will be gone all of January!
DeleteWhat a fairy tale restaurant! You certainly know how to celebrate your birthday, skiing, Disney and Hawaii, hard to beat that! Happy Birthday Jackie, and safe travels!
ReplyDeleteJenna
Yes you feel like you are in a fairy tale there. The waitresses used to wear fabulous dresses too, but they have changed that now. Sad to see magical things disappear.
DeleteWhat a great way to celebrate with your family, Jacqueline! The place looked exquisite and the food looked divine! Enjoy your time away, especially in Hawaii. You're so funny...that you're going to soak up some sun while you age! You look fabulous! Happy Birthday!!!
ReplyDeleteI told hubby I still feel 40 since we have been going someplace warm for my birthday ever since I turned 40!
DeleteThat is a gorgeous place, I'm going to have to put that on my bucket list to visit. Those ceilings are amazing.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a special occasion restaurant worth going to! So pretty at Christmas and again at mid summer when the gardens are in full swing.
DeleteOh my. That restaurant is unbelievable! Wow! You have a beautiful family, including the one that felt underdressed.
ReplyDelete:) gwingal
Thank you! I try to teach them to dress nicely for nice places and they did well. She is 7 months pregnant and he had a work shirt with a logo on it - so they didn't want to show their clothes.
DeleteHappy Birthday and Happy New Year! The restaurant is so pretty....I could live there, too! When we were in St. Kitts, we saw where Robert Redford bought a mountain peak, and is developing a gated community called Sundance. So I guess he has the best of both worlds!
ReplyDeletexo,
Ricki Jill
Haha - I have actually skiied behind Robert Redford and seen him at the restaurant.
DeleteI could live there too and you wouldn't believe the gardens in the summer.
Happy New Year and Happy Birthday Jackie! Your ski trip sounds wonderful and I hope you share pics with us :-) My hubby has a January birthday and we celebrate with a ski and then a dip in the jacuzzi.
ReplyDeleteOh happy birthday to him. Not the month I would pick!
DeleteSuch a beautiful restaurant to celebrate your birthday! I'm like you and don't won't the wonderful Christmas traditions to end We have been traveling and entertains our family and friends. Your trips to Disneyland and then Hawaii sound exciting. Wishing you a wonderful and Happy New Year.........
ReplyDeleteI love finding friends who want it to continue! I have a couple who don't even put up a tree and they have children at home! So sad! I have others who want their trees down the day of!! So not me!
DeleteJackie,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad La Caille is open again!! My nephew got married there and it's gorgeous! I love the Christmas magic to last as well. I may have to decorate my house for winter when I get home, since we have been with our daughter for December and I didn't get a chance to decorate before we left. Have a great time in Hawaii!! And a very Haooy Birthday. I love that your kids love you fancy dinners and stuff. I need some training. I've been trying to train mine, but they aren't always as excited about the formal dinners as I'd like them to be.
hugs,
Betsy
