I am obsessed with all things Unicorn!
So magical!!
Jacquelyn turned 5 and wanted a birthday party
on her actual birthday. Generally I have helped her
mom with a large combined party for Jacquelyn and
her cousin, but this year she wanted her own party.
Her birthday was Monday and we have our youngest
son getting married on Friday, with guests coming in last
night, so a party on Monday seemed pretty crazy, but
we decided to pull it together, and fulfill her dreams.
I started with the horn and ears, as they would need to harden.
I have always made my own fondant, but I had taken a
cooking class and was introduced to Satin Ice, which
can be purchased on Amazon. It is wonderful for small
projects as my one pound tub has stayed soft and pliable
for almost a year now.
For the horn, I took one of my metal baking cones
and wrapped it with a thin snake of fondant. I
let that dry overnight and then sprayed it with edible
gold spray. That wasn't as gold as I wanted it,
so I used gold lustre and painted it on with lemon extract.
You won't get the bright gold effect without using
some sort of alcohol, and I had lemon extract
with has a high alcohol content.
The ears were just triangles of fondant, which
I again painted with the gold lustre and then brought
the two bottom points together to create a curve.
Sweet gift bags were made from plain paper sacks
with silk flowers glued to the top and golden
horns glued inside the sack, along with golden
ears. Eyes were then drawn on. I glued a little
tissue onto the inside of the front of the sacks
to make them prettier.
Of course one needs Unicorn bark for a Unicorn party,
and for someone like me who has shelves and shelves
of sprinkles, this was a lot of fun.
The bark was broken and bagged for each of the guests.
My daughter found a Unicorn pinata for the party.
Silverware and ice cream cones matched the color scheme
of the cake.
The birthday girl was crowned with a Unicorn headband,
and even had a Unicorn shirt for the day.
It ended up being one of the cutest parties!
Now on to the rest of the celebrations
for the week!
If you follow me on Instagram, you know I have
been crazy busy since the last time I posted, but
I had been saving pictures of ideas and events
we have done. Alas, my phone fell to the bottom of
Lake Powell, and the only photos that were saved on the
cloud were those I had tried to delete last year! Maybe
I can retrieve some from family members that I sent
photos to!
My BAD!!!
This is all absolutely adorable! I'm in awe of your talent and your endless energy. Happy Birthday this this sweet five year old and congratulations to your son. Wow, what a busy time! Enjoy the celebrations.
ReplyDeleteYes, we have been so crazy busy that blogging was the last thing I could fit in! I have missed it though!
DeleteEeekkk!!!! Your phone is resting on the bottom of a lake??!!?!? That would be frightening! I know my phone is like an appendage!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the party of all parties, the envy of every little girl! Your cake baking and decorating skills have been a pleasure to watch evolve over the years. The unicorn 🦄 Idea is so cute, and how you pulled it off with such a huge event on the horizon...nothing short of miraculous!
Alycia, I can still see it floating to the bottom. There was only 12 inches or less between the boat and the dock and no way to grab it!

So, so darling! I know the birthday girl was thrilled with such a fabulous party -- and that cake! Amazing attention to detail!
ReplyDeleteI left before they served it so I had to request they save me a piece!
DeleteSo great to hear from you Jacqueline, I've been worried! I was pretty sure you were busy doing something wonderful, though and this unicorn party is right up there with some of your best! Love the unicorn bark! Lucky little Jacqueline, I know she was thrilled! Congrats to your son, have a wonderful time~

Sometimes life just gets that way! I hope I can recover some pictures from those I sent to family and friends! Yikes!
DeleteCrazy busy, but we made it through the wedding and all was wonderful.
How lovely to have you back, and what a charming party for your namesake! All the pastels and swoops and swirls and ingenious ideas for the decor---so YOU in the inspiration, the creation, and the execution of every detail.
ReplyDeleteI've MISSED your lively, colourful posts, and have a dolor for all the photos of the brilliant occasions and creations lost in the camera. (says I, still having my own gentle pout at the loss of that wonderful FROZEN party I patterned after your own, and worked on for weeks, as the pictures just shispered away betwixt phone camera and computer storage, never to be again).
Congratulations on your HAPPY event, and looking forward to all the splendor of the festivities!! Very best blessings to the Happy Couple, as well.

Yeah, the wedding is complete and I am still somewhat sane, although last night I couldn't remember names as I introduced people!
DeleteSo sorry to hear that you lost your Frozen photos too! Just makes you sick doesn't it!??
How precious and so fun for your namesake. She is a cutie. The party is fantastic, from the darling cake, cute favor bags and unicorn bark. So colorful and fun and the best part was making Jaclyn so very happy. Looking forward to see your future posts. So sorry about your phone, that must be so frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI just need to slow down my life! I told hubby next summer no taking everyone he thinks of to Lake Powell. I need down time!
DeleteThree things come to mind, lovely, oh so pretty, and magical. Wow!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I just love magic for little kids! Hope some day they remember it! Haha! That is why I make little journal pages for them - so they remember a few things Grandma did for them!
DeleteWow, those 5 years flew by...it's hard to believe Jacquelyn is already 5 years old!
ReplyDeleteThis has to be the cutest birthday theme I have seen in years. I love that beautiful cake...you are such a talented grandmother.
That was such a fun party. We were glad we were able to see it. Talley says, and she is serious, that she wants a unicorn party too. Tati also. It appeals to everyone! Such great fun, and so creative. The cake was amazing as were all the details.
ReplyDeleteWOW!! What an amazing fun party!! love it..
ReplyDeleteI can't believe she turned 5 already!! You outdid yourself!!
