Dining Room Makeover

You saw this beautiful piece that I redid for
the wedding in my backyard this summer.

After I finished the wedding reception, I said this
piece was too pretty now to go back into the basement,
so it takes center stage in the dining room.

I removed the red curtains, the red lamp shades and
the red rug and wow, the room is now so much
brighter!!  I can't believe the difference just removing
the lampshades made.

Taking the red curtains down also changed the look
of the room as they were replaced with gauzy white ones.

The table and chairs were temporary, as the table
was moving to the kitchen and the chairs
came from the kitchen, but when my oldest
granddaughter walked in, she said, "This is too pretty, it
needs a tablescape!"  She proceeded to pull plates out of
a cabinet and did the whole table by herself.

The pink and aqua pieces were ones I had purchased
from Pier 1 quite some time ago, but had never
used.

They were stored in this tall cabinet in the dining
room, which used to have a red front, but that
got a makeover also.

I thought it was so cute that she used just things
that were stored here in the dining room.

She chose the gold flatware also.

It is so fun to see the little ones learn to love the things
that you love, and then to experiment with them.

I will post the new furniture that completes
the dining room soon!  I was fortunate that my
sister Jean was visiting when the new furniture
arrived, so that she and my niece helped us set
up the new table and chairs.  Can't wait to share it
with you.

It has been a crazy end of summer, running from one
thing to the next, but I am still sad to see it end.

I will be posting with

I invite you to share my adventures in creating, in travel, and in life.

    1. The refinished cabinet was the inspiration. I loved that she appreciated it. Lots of times my own kids appreciate things less than the grandkids.

  3. The table looks lovely. She did a great job on the arranging. I guess she is learning from her Grandma. I am excited to see the room complete.

    1. One of the most rewarding things is to see the grandkids copy what you do! So fun to see them show their appreciation.

  4. How fun. Your granddaughter created a wonderful table. I especially love the little pedestal plates at each setting. The aqua is such a nice pop of color on the table.

  5. Your dining room is lovely, but most special is that your granddaughter set that table! You put so much effort into creating lovely tablescapes, and it is wonderful to see a young person absorbing it and creating her own.

    1. Yes, the grandkids are the icing on the cake - especially when they want to be with you and do what you love.

    1. So true! Everyone walks through the room and just expresses delight - even young adult guys! That was the fun one - hearing twenty something guys notice and comment on how much they like it.

  10. Your granddaughter did a wonderful job with the tablescape. I like the dish mix she created and the pretty gold silverware goes nicely with them. Your made over cabinet looks wonderful. That's a really cute table with the unique trimmed edge. It will be fun to see what your new dining set looks like!

    1. Yes, I love that table and am so happy to move it to the kitchen and get rid of the glass one in there. Too many fingerprints under and on top from the little ones!!!

  12. That was exciting and gratifying to see your granddaughter walk in your footsteps. They do observe more than we think. Your tablescape is very pretty. Love the aqua plates and pink and aqua stemware.
I love your new look in your dining room. Light and airy and elegant! You did a great job on the furniture.
I know what you mean about going from here to there and staying so busy.
I finally finished the post of my kitchen remodel.

  13. Jacqueline,
Such a beautiful change in your dining room! It is so much brighter! It was beautiful before, and now it's brightly beautiful. I have been thinking about your piece you painted for the wedding...I think I need it for mine! we are doing a hot chocolate bar, just up YOUR alley, and I'm trying to find something here that reminds me of your piece! I will most likely use the 1940s waterfall buffet I have all our sheet music in in our music room for that plan at our reception. Trying to decide if I should refinish it or not... so tempting, yours turned out so well! We ARE doing the wedding at Christmas!!! I know...crazy! but it will still be fun. Maybe we will come Caroling at your house one evening!
your Granddaughter did such a beautiful job on the table scape! She has been carefully watching you and following your lead. what fun you and your grands are having together! Mine will be here from Germany for the wedding. It w ill be a busy time, but I want to be organized so that we can still have some Christmas fun without the wedding preparations taking all the fun! lots to do! I'll have to post about some of my plans soon. I haven't done a blog post in a year!
    take care! see you soon!
    hugs,
    Betsy
