Lilacs are such a sentimental flower for me. Whenever they
are in bloom in the month of May, I am reminded of our
wedding reception 33 years ago in May.
Of course I loved purple
even back then and my parents had a 50 foot hedge of
different varieties of lilacs from white to deep dark purples.
We filled the church with lilacs cut from those bushes.
As a girl I would cut myself a bouquet and bring it into my
room to smell the wondrous fragrance of our lilacs.
They have such a short growing season and I just had to
include a table with the lilacs and other flowers from
the garden. Today is a romantic table for two outside
for dessert to enjoy the beautiful flowers and fragrances
of Spring.
Bleeding hearts are another flower that reminds me of growing up.
Do you find that you want to have the flowers that your mother
had in her garden? I do.
These little gems have always fascinated me. What an intricate
and wonderful blossom. I had to tuck some in with the dessert fork.
I layered these beautiful square purple blossom plates with
a white square plate for my romantic table for two
in honor of our anniversary.
These wonderful light purple bubble glasses are perfect
for our romantic table.
Just these few lilac blossoms fill the air with their heady aroma.
This old bistro set was looking a little tired so a few years
ago I sprayed it purple and recovered the chairs with
outdoor fabric in a black and cream damask that I
purchased from Ballard.
It is so nice to be able to have the weather warm enough to
sit outside and begin to enjoy the garden.
I am so grateful for my marriage and that we have had
so many years together. I love that I
got married at such a pretty time of year and that
the blossoms of the season remind me of that.
Thanks for visiting Purple Chocolat Home today.
I enjoy each and every comment.
I will be sharing with
I love lilacs, too, although mine are not blooming! Need to find a fix for that. Such a charming table for two, Jacqueline. Happy Anniversary. xo
ReplyDeletethis post just reminded me to check on my own lilac bush that is around the corner of my house that I don't see unless I look, I sure hope it's as beautiful as yours! anne

hugs,
shug
Happy Anny Jacqueline! Such a pretty setting, I love those dishes! After a few cool damp days, it's warmed up nicely here in Philly too:@)
ReplyDeleteMany congratulations on your long and happy marriage! It's work, but the work is SO totally worth it!!! I am going to suggest to my Mom that she let me paint her outdoor furniture a cool color like purple or hot pink. She has that same old tired white stuff that is about a billion years old, and a shot of color would wake it right up! I think hot pink would look really slick next to the deep blue of the pool water!!! She's having a lot of redecorating done at her house right now, so maybe she's ripe for the suggestion! Lilacs are so wonderful, and the fragrance just makes me melt. The purple tulips are gorgeous, too!!! I grew bleeding heart bushes in the yard of our old house, and I loved them. Those that I started here died out. I love how you included a sprig of the bleeding hearts with the napkin. Very pretty!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! May is a beautiful month for a celebration and lilacs are one of my favourite blooms. Your table is, truly, romantic!
ReplyDeleteHi

LOVE the idea of a HEDGE of them, may have to try that at the new house! We have many bleeding hearts here at this house. Hope they will grow at the new place as I love them too. Have a great day, it is a rainy day here:( XO, Pinky

Happy Anniversary! There are two scents that I absolutely love in the spring and those are Lilacs and Lilies of the The Valley! How wonderful the church must have smelled on your wedding day.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqueline,
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! Your table for two is just darling. Lilacs are one of my favorite flowers. These are so pretty I can practically smell them. I love how you tucked the bleeding heart into the bouquet and with the desert fork. It's funny you mentioned your mother's garden. My mother has lilacs and bleeding hearts so of course in my yard I planted the same things to remind me of home.
Thanks for a lovely post!
Danielle xo
Your purple is stunning, every detail of it. The garden I most remember was at my great grandmother's and luckily I have some of the same things growing in mine, not in Houston but in Maine where the climate is a little more conducive to lilacs, hydrangeas and peonies.
ReplyDeleteWonderful colors! The flowers are gorgeous and I am imagining the fragrant smell. Beautiful tablescape as usual...Christine

I can't imagine how nice it must have smelled in church to have it filled with lilacs! Truly one of God's blessings! Your sweet table looks lovely! Cute table and chairs! I like their basket like woven backs on the chairs!

ReplyDeleteOh how beautiful! Those plates are gorgeous! And the flowers, wow! I agree, my mom was all about the garden, and I treasure a few things I have that came from her house.
ReplyDeleteOur anniv. is May too! I didn't want to be a June bride, too common, LOL! Two of my sisters were, and I HAD to be different. It rained, and was cold!

Mother's Day Challenge this Wed at 7! :)
I do remember your wedding day very much as I was out cutting lilacs at the last minute. Mother called to say that we needed more when I came home to get ready for the wedding reception. It was such a heavenly scent to smell the lilacs when you walked into the reception! I also love bleeding hearts. I gave one to Mother for Mother's Day one year and it was still there when Dad passed away. Such a lovely table setting. Love the new plates, don't deny it they are new!) and the rich colored purple napkins. Joni
ReplyDeleteJacqueline~ I ADORE lilacs and wish we could grow them here! They're beautiful paired with your bleeding hearts and purple tulips at your celebratory table for two! Happy Anniversary wishes to you :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful tablescape! I'm been on the lookout for some purple pieces for my table..Blessings, Tammy
