Celebrating Three Kings Day With A Fiesta

Today's table has been set for a

meal I am having for friends

this week.  

Since Three King's Day is January 6th

and is celebrated in Mexico, I decided we

would have Mexican food and the

table would follow this festive theme.

The tableware is all fun items I have picked 

up in Cabo from the plates and the bowls

to the glassware.  I always, always, always

bring a hard side carry on so that I can bring

back dishes and glassware if I fall in love.

These bright yellow and blue plates

caught my eye.  I love the hand painted

detail and the brilliant color.  I am always

drawn to square plates and this is a fun way

to mix the two.

I brought back the pewter bowls to use as

small serving bowls but they top the plates

perfectly.

Such great handles on these small bowls.

These fun straw placemats remind me of

the palapas you see all over Mexico.

I tried both silver and black flatware

and decided I liked the richness of 

the black the best.  If in doubt, try both

out and choose which one you like best.

The placemats give the table a fun

casual feel.

The short deep cobalt glasses

are paired with the tall cobalt

rimmed glasses.  We will be having

non-alcoholic lava flows to drink

but I always like to serve ice water

in addition.  The short glasses are our

everyday glasses.

The centerpiece has fun theme related

candles.  The pewter one came from Cabo also.

I love how the light shines through 

the glass on these tone on tone hurricanes.

These little crowns show off the candle

light in a fun and different way.

We are almost ready for our meal.  

I am using the pewter bowls as individual

chip bowls.  I think that is a fun touch.

I always like to serve appetizers 

when I entertain.  It makes for

fun conversation (and I just love appetizer

type foods!)

  

For the first time since I can remember we haven't

gotten together as siblings for a Christmas party.

(My parents have both been gone for over 15 years now.)

The day before Christmas Eve my husband and

I were at the mall and we ran into my brother and

his wife and my sister and her family.  My brother

commented on how he thought the Mexican tradition

of Three King's Day was such a fun way to extend

Christmas a little and that we ought to do it too.

I laughed and said, "Yes, that way we can have a

family party after Christmas as before Christmas

was just too busy this year."  So his comment

was my inspiration for this fun Mexican fiesta.

(And our weather has been so warm

you could almost imagine you are in Cabo!)
