Cooking Up An Apron for Mrs. Claus

Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas

and it will be a merry one in this 

wonderful Christmas apron for

Mrs. Claus!

Maybe you have figured it out by now, 

but I have a soft spot in my heart for 

dear

Mrs. Claus.

I am WELL AWARE of how hard she works and

she rarely gets any credit.  She needs a little TLC

this time of year so I created this

gorgeous ruffled apron.

I think we should make up a song for her

that goes a little like

"Mrs. Claus is going to town...

in this apron."

This isn't her everyday work apron, this

is her Christmas Eve party apron.

And she deserves something this dressy 

after all she does to get Christmas ready.

Take my basic directions for making ruffled

aprons from here.

I purchased 1 1/2 yards of red gabardine,

1/2 yard of black gabardine and 

1/2 yard of white Minky fur.

I altered the pattern just a little by making the

bottom of the apron flare out a little more - about

two inches more on each side.  Then I cut the apron

across at the waistline because I wanted the first

ruffle to be inside the seam.

Measure for 3 ruffles (doubling the fabric) about

6 - 7 inches for the first and 6 1/2 - 7 1/2 for the

other two.  Cut white Minky fabric out to 4 1/2 inches

by the length of each ruffle.  Turn the Minky fabric

wrong sides together and serge onto the bottom of your

ruffle pieces.

Also serge a piece of Minky fur onto the top of

your apron bodice.

Finish all edges of the bodice by serging.

Finish the edges of the apron bottom by serging.

Serge all sides of the ruffle pieces, then sew in a gathering

stitch along the top side.  Pull gathering stitch up 

and pin onto the right side of the apron skirt.  Serge

the ruffle on, adjusting gathering as you go.  Then

serge the skirt with the attached ruffle to the bodice

with the fur trim.

Repeat the application of the fur, finishing the edges

and making the gathering stitch and attaching it to the

apron front.

Turn under the serged edges of the bodice and topstitch

in place.

Cut out black fabric 4 1/2 inches by width of your

apron and enough to tie on each side.  You may have to

piece this depending on the length of your fabric.

Sew a seam lengthwise and close off one end.  

Turn, press and finish second end.

Find the center of this black belt and the center

of the apron.  Pin in place and topstitch over the

waist then topstitch on the other side of the band.

Do the same thing for the neckband, determining

the length you need.  Then attach the neckband

on the wrong side of the fur trim.

Attach a buckle by hand sewing it into place.

And your Mrs. Claus will be ready

 to hit the town.
