Naughty and Nice Pecans - A Little Spice and a Whole Lot of Sweet

Part of the magic for me growing up
during special holiday meals was having
appetizers.  Appetizers weren't a part of
our every day lives.  My aunt had a whole
table of appetizers for her holiday meal
and it made it feel so special.

These sweet and spicy pecans
would be perfect for a part of your
appetizer table, or they would make
a simple and easy hostess gift as
you enjoy the holidays.

Many years ago someone sent us
a package of similarly spiced pecans from Texas.
I couldn't get enough of them, so I
tried to recreate their sweet savory combination.

Naughty and Nice Pecan Recipe

In small saucepan bring  to a boil
1 C. water
1/4 C. sugar

Add 2 C. pecans.

Boil for 3 minutes and then drain.

Meanwhile in a small bowl mix:
1 T. sugar
1/2 T. chili powder
1/2 tsp. cajun seasoning

Toss the spices with the drained pecans.
Place on a parchment lined baking sheet and
bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes.  Let cool
and let sit uncovered overnight to dry out.

Enjoy a little savory with your sweets this
holiday season.

I will be posting this with

Chocolat - French for Chocolate. I adored chocolate from a young age when I had to sneak in the cupboard to find where my mother had hidden the Nestle's Chocolate Chips. Having read about the famous chocolat shoppes in Paris, when I finally got there I was determined to try a chocolate from every Paris shoppe. I invite you to share my adventures in creating, in travel, and in life.

  4. These look very tasty. I grew up with appetizers too, more savoury than sweet but I like to serve nuts when guests are over.

  17. A staple of Texas! :-) I do add a pinch of cayenne pepper to mine with a bit less sugar. Just a thought ~ although many don't want them with that much "kick".

    Beautiful presentation...as usual.

  26. We only had appetizers when my parents had a party. We didn't really even have them on holidays. I think that is why they are still my favorite food...I could easily skip the main dish. I would love these!
