The Salt Lake, The Magazine For Utah
is a fun magazine
to buy because it often has restaurant reviews.
They recently featured "75 Best Burgers"
in the state.
The
Hogburger
caught my eye.
It is made at Brittons in Sandy, Utah and is described
as a 'hamburger between two grilled cheese sandwiches,
one with onions and one with tomatoes."
The picture made my mouth start to water and I
decided this was one hamburger we had to try making
at home.
We grill outside come rain or shine, winter or summer
so hamburgers are year round here.
I started with fresh tomatoes that I salted and peppered, onions
that we caramelized,
and hamburger meat that I seasoned with olive oil, salt
and pepper. We grilled the burgers on the BBQ and
then brought them in while we made the grilled cheese
sandwiches.
We buttered the outside of two pieces of good white bread
and topped each piece of bread with a slice of colby/jack
cheese, then tomatoes on one side and grilled onions on the
other side. These were each topped with another piece
of buttered bread and grilled on the other side until the
cheese is melted.
Place the burger between two grilled cheese sandwiches, one
with tomatoe and one with onions. You could also add a
couple slices of bacon (if you want your heart to really stop!)
I don't know why they named it the Hogburger, except that
maybe you feel like a HOG when you are eating it.
I thought it was absolutely fabulous. I knew I should have
stopped at a half, but I have to admit that I
ATE THE WHOLE THING!
(HOG, OINK, OINK)
I would highly recommend trying this (but only
after you have already broken your New Year's
resolution to diet.)
I will be posting this with
We saw this idea and also tried it...my husband's eyes LIT UP when he saw the pictures of this burger. He too was in HOG HEAVEN. Sadly we had a strong storm come through the end of Dec. and it blew our grill off it's very secure perch on the back porch into the yard in pieces...we have yet to replace it and burgers just aren't the same cooked inside. It makes me wish we had installed the indoor grill when we built after all...I just couldn't decide. I better close out your page before he walks by on his way out the door or he'll be drooling.

My husband "The Boss" is a real Hog...even has two Harley's to prove it but the man loves his grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches...We ate at a dinner here in Atlanta the other day and that was what he ordered...he thought how can you mess up a grilled cheese sandwich...They did...it was horrible...I love the idea of adding onions and a burger.......I grill a few times a week but indoors....I love my JennAir...thanks for sharing this great recipe!! Sue.

ReplyDeleteThis recipe sounds good but I thought it was going to be a recipe with pork weiners with a name like hogburger. You always intrigue me with your posts. I just checked out your kitchen makeover again and no wonder your love to cook. It is a beautiful room to cook in. Thanks for taking time to share.
ReplyDeleteYum ! This is so mouth watering and i have to say the cake pops were unreal !!! You are a very talented lady !

Oh boy, that looks like a winner! A juicy burger AND grilled cheese sandwiches together?!? Wow!
ReplyDeleteIn Wisconsin where I come from we call these Patty Melts and you use Rye bread. The Rye makes it yummy.
